Collaboration with SJ Götalandståg

With new Swedish-developed technology, SJ Götalandståg has implemented a system for unmanned and automated alcohol testing of employees to ensure a sober workplace.

Primarily, individuals performing safety-critical tasks, such as train drivers, are tested every day using “Senseair Safe Start.” Safe Start was chosen primarily for its ease of use. The employee’s ID card serves as identification, and then the employee breathes gently into the sensor inlet. The procedure is entirely self-explanatory, and no button presses are required.

“The best thing about Sesame Connect is that you don’t need a mouthpiece, which makes it quick, easy, and hygienic to use. Many employees were concerned when the system was introduced, but now there are no complaints.”

Linda Dempe, Traffic Safety Officer, SJ Götalandståg.

“Having a hundred percent screening every day is very positive for management and concerned personnel, as everyone knows that we have a completely sober workplace. In the past, random alcohol tests were sometimes a source of tension and debate, but the new routine has eliminated the previous difficulties. Today, the system is only used for safety-sensitive personnel, but we are now discussing the possibility of including the entire company’s staff.”
