Senseair Sensors Ready ASHRAE addendum ab
Compliant, low-power CO₂ sensors built for real-world performance
Indoor air quality (IAQ) is no longer a “nice to have”—it’s a critical component of building health and efficiency. And if you’re in the business of HVAC systems, building automation, or smart ventilation, you’ve probably heard about the new ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022 Addendum ab.
This update raises the bar for CO₂ sensor performance, and here at Senseair, we’re all for it. In fact, several of our NDIR sensors already meet these new requirements.
Let’s break down what this means—for the industry, for building managers, and for us as a sensor manufacturer.
What’s New in Addendum ab?
The updated addendum brings in tighter accuracy demands for CO₂ sensors used in demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) systems—a common and smart way to reduce energy use while keeping indoor air fresh.
Here’s the key takeaway:
Sensors must now be accurate within ±75 ppm at 600, 1000, and 2500 ppm CO₂ concentrations, at 25°C (77°F) and sea level.
They also need to be:
- Factory calibrated, and
- Certified to not require recalibration more than once every five years.
It’s a move that pushes the industry to lean on trusted, proven sensor technology—exactly where Senseair strengths lie.
Senseair Sensors That Meet the Standard
We’re proud to say that four of our most popular CO₂ sensors already comply with Addendum ab:
- Sunlight CO₂
- Sunrise
- S8
- S88
Our sensors have been tested across a wide CO₂ range (400 to 2500 ppm), and every unit falls within the updated ±75 ppm spec. And this isn’t just lab talk—we’re individually calibrating all our sensors.
Our sensors are engineered for real-world conditions—not just ideal lab settings. Whether installed near ventilation ducts where vibration, air turbulence, and acoustic noise are common, or in remote locations where low power consumption is critical, Senseair sensors remain stable and reliable. They’re designed to resist interference from direct sunlight, external heat sources, and even humidity-driven changes in the air’s acoustic properties. With ultra-low energy use and a design life of over 15 years, these sensors are built to last—no matter where you place them.
Why It Matters
For developers, engineers, and system integrators, the update is more than just another checkbox. Choosing sensors that meet these new precision standards helps:
- Ensure regulatory compliance
- Improve indoor air quality
- Enhance occupant comfort
- Optimise energy use
And with Senseair sensors, you get that peace of mind—plus over 30 years of expertise behind every unit produced.
Built for the Future of IAQ
At Senseair, we see Addendum ab not as a hurdle, but a validation of what we’ve been doing all along: designing high-precision, maintenance free CO₂ sensors that lead the industry.
Whether you’re upgrading your current systems or building smarter solutions from the ground up, our range of compliant sensors is ready to help you meet and exceed expectations.
